Analysis and Documentation of Tropenbos International’s MoMo4C Approach to Business Development 

Project explanation:

Over the past five years, Tropenbos International (TBI) has implemented a program aimed at strengthening the business and finance capacities of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and producer organizations in Ghana and Indonesia. Known as the MoMo4C approach, this initiative focuses on supporting sustainable business development and finance solutions in tropical landscapes.

This process has been a journey of trial and error, culminating in a practical and effective framework for fostering sustainable business initiatives. However, this approach has yet to be systematically analyzed and documented. The results of this analysis will support TBI’s future program development and proposal writing.

This internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the documentation and critical evaluation of TBI’s MoMo4C business development approach. It also offers experience in supporting the Business and Finance team, a central pillar of Tropenbos International’s global strategy.

What will you be working on?

Analysis and Documentation of the TBI MoMo4C Approach (70% of time):

  • Analyze TBI’s approach to supporting sustainable business development for SMEs andproducer organizations.
  • Document lessons learned, challenges, and successes to inform future initiatives.oUse program reports, plans, interviews, and relevant literature to support findings andrecommendations.
  • Deliver outputs that include a detailed description of the approach and a report onlessons learned and recommendations for future programs.

Support to the Business and Finance Team (30% of time):

  • Attend Business and Finance (B&F) team meetings.
  • Assist with B&F activities linked to other TBI programs.
  • Share and discuss preliminary findings with TBI staff and partners, including thoseoutside the MoMo4C program.

What are we looking for?

  • Background or experience in microeconomics, sustainable land use, or related fields.
  • Analytical skills and conceptual thinking.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and identify practical recommendations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially in cross-cultural settings.
  • Proficiency in conducting literature reviews and qualitative research (e.g., interviews).
  • Self-motivated with an explorative and proactive attitude.

What do we offer?

  • Joining standard Tropenbos International network meetings and other relevant meetings,trainings or workshops.
  • Duration of the internship of 4 to 6 months (preferably 1st February 2025 until 30th June 2025).
  • Working hours: 32h – 36h per week.
  • Two days a week at the office in Ede.
  • Internship allowance of €375,- based on a fulltime workweek (36h).
